Hey out there,
There is a village in Bali that became very land rich about 400 years ago. At that point, they decided to spend most of their time and money on spiritual endeavors. I believe more than 250 days a year are utilized for spiritual ceremony. I was thinking that here in the Hamptons, there is a similar land rich situation, and maybe there needs to be a group of us that spend most of the year in prayer and in spiritual practices.
A student and friend came up to me today saying that it was a shame that he was going to be busy again in September and that this wonderful ritual of coming to Yoga Shanti every other day was coming to a close for the year. I realize that for most of us, this is a choice. Most of us are not exactly living hand to mouth even though that is how it feels most of the time.
When most of us retire, we will undoubtedly stay busier than ever, but how many of us will spend the entire day spinning the prayer wheel praying for the alleviation of suffering of other sentient beings?
What do we want out of this life? We are making choices. Let us examine these choices closely in our seated meditations and make them wisely.
In thoughtfulness and in love,
Rodney Yee
